Motorcycle Theft Prevention Tips from #PWCPD Crime Prevention Unit. •Garage if possible. •If you don’t have a garage, try to park in a well-lit area with a motion-sensitive security camera that will notify you in the event it picks up any motion. Many cameras can now be set to recognize the difference between an animal and a person. •Use a motorcycle cover. It deters theft because it conceals what’s underneath. Thieves are more likely to steal something if they can quickly ascertain its value. Because theft is often a crime of opportunity, this can be a crucial step to preventing theft. •Invest in a motorcycle alarm. Many are Smart Systems with automatic self-arming and hands-free disarming security features. Motorcycle Cover alarms are available as well, triggering the alarm if the cover is removed. •Use a motorbike chain and lock to secure your motorcycle. Chains and padlocks are commonly fitted around the bike's frame or through the back wheel (the front wheel can be removed) to prevent your motorbike from being stolen. It can stop thieves from picking up your bike if attached to a secure, stationary object that can't be easily dismantled, such as a light pole. Use a lock that is not easy to cut through even with bolt cutters. •If traveling with other riders, lock motorcycles together when not in use.13Like

Once you realize the steps you need to take, we are counting on you to do them daily! Do your part to keep your home and belongings safe: • Lock all entrances to your home, including garage entry doors, and close overhead garage doors at night. Open and unlocked doors provide quick and easy access to cars, items in garages and homes. • Lock vehicles even when parked in the garage. • Lock all vehicles left in driveways or on the street overnight. Thieves can use garage door openers found in unlocked cars to access garages and homes. • Do not leave valuables such as purses, wallets, keys, electronics, and firearms in cars parked in driveways or garages overnight, also consider tucking them away inside your home, rather than leaving them by the door. Are the messages from long-lost friends or romance scammers trying to get close? Here are some things to watch for. Scammers pretend to be heroes in faraway places. The phony Marines, soldiers, admirals, generals, diplomats, and surgeons claim they can’t speak or show their faces because they’re in Afghanistan, Ukraine, or South Sudan — but they aren’t. Scammers say they’re in love. You can’t meet these faraway “friends” in person, but they’ll chat with you daily. Too soon, they surprise you with declarations of love, or ask to marry you, and say you can share all your secrets (and money) with them now. Don’t believe them. Scammers ask for expensive favors. They might ask you to accept a package of cash, gems, and gold and pay the fake “shipping fee” that really goes in their pocket. Or, they ask for new phones to replace broken ones or beg for gift cards and presents for the “kids they left back home.” (There aren’t any kids.) If you say OK to one request, they come back with another, and then another. Scammers always ask for money. They make plans to visit but tell you they’re delayed by costly problems: a lost airline ticket or visa, a medical emergency, or a blocked account. They say if you could send them some money, they could still come see you. But the minute your online love interest asks for money, you know it’s a scam. Want to know who else is a scammer? Anyone who asks you to share account numbers, send gift cards or wire transfers, or pay with payment apps or cryptocurrency. If you think someone is a scammer, cut off contact. Tell the online app or social media platform right away, and then tell the FTC at ReportFraud.ftc.gov.23Like6
